Surrender a Pet

The decision to give up an animal is a difficult one. Please take time to consider all other options before surrendering your pet, including re-homing.

FINDING A NEW HOME FOR YOUR PET

If you are considering finding a new home for a pet, rather than turn the animal into a shelter or rescue, there are proactive steps you can use to increase your chances of success.

PREPARE THE ANIMAL FOR A NEW HOME

To increase the chances of finding a home and the success of the new placement, it is important that the pet is:

  • Spayed or neutered

  • In good health and up-to-date on vaccinations

  • Clean and groomed

  • House-trained and reasonably well-behaved

ADVERTISE

Additionally, we wanted to offer another resource to help place your dog. Rehome by Adopt a Pet is an adoption service for individual pet owners. Rehome lets pet owners promote their pet directly to potential adopters on Adopt a Pet, and guides pet owners and adopters through the process to make it as smooth and safe as possible for everyone.

You can use this link to create a profile for your pet https://rehome.adoptapet.com/r/185666. The profile will then be avilable to anyone in your area looking to adopt a dog. Adopt a Pet does charage a small Rehome listing fee (between $5 and $50 based on the type and age of their pet), or you can use this referral coupon code which reduces the listing fee to $1:
